Reporter Corners Carney on Canada’s Weak Position with Trump
Like, I mean, the president is an exceptionally active user of social media.
They tried to sneak it in.Welcome back to Moose and Loose. My name's David.Today, we've got the liberals trying to sneak in a couple of changes to Bill C -9.This is Sean Frazier's new speech, Bill. And well, their changes didn't go unseen.
We got Mark Carney finally doing a press conference, more talk about the recession, bowing down to Donald Trump. The concessions are coming.Let's jump into this.Starting this episode off, we've got BC Hydro turns back to natural gas to help fill electricity.gap.That's right.
In British Columbia, they've been trying to get rid of natural gas. They've been mandating this so you can't have natural gas in new developments, new builds. And here they are going back to natural gas.It says B .C.government's clean B .
C.policies are at odds with rising electricity demand, reliability requirements and economic growth. As we've been saying since 2023, shutting down B .C.'s remaining natural fired gas power plants is risky and does not make sense.Yeah, no kidding. We've got this one here.
U .S.bill would prevent Chinese connected cars in Canada from entering the United States.I mean, This is all connected here.First off, they spend something like 30 plus billion dollars of our tax dollars on electrification EVs.It fails miserably.
Some of the stuff is still going. There's some of those companies are still producing batteries. Most of those cars are not taking off. Then what does Carney do?He opens up the Canadian market to Chinese EVs, which doesn't make sense with all the money they just spent on trying to do this in Canada. Then what does he do?
He has a press conference announcing 10 billion dollars for Quebec infrastructure and transit. And well, a lot of this money is going to electrified buses.Yet we've already done this.City of Edmonton's electric bus fleet plagued with issues over half not in service. This is back from 2023.We already know how this ends.
These do not work. They don't work in Canadian climate. So basically the Coles notes of this, they bought a bunch of these electric buses. It cost a lot of money. They paid $1 million for each bus. They ordered 60 of them from the US.
The company that made them, this Proterra, they basically went belly up.They can't fix these buses. They break down all the time.More than half the buses aren't in operation. And basically they're taking most of these buses off the road because because they don't...If that's not enough, the government spent our money on Line Electric school buses, which went up in flames.
And here they are investing more in electric buses in Quebec. The optics of this are awful for Mark Carney, considering his background, his economic pedigree, Goldman Sachs, governor of the Bank of England, Canada, all of this.He can't figure out the economy. That's what this looks like.
Mark Carney goes down to America, says that famous line, Canada strong will help make America great again.
projects pipelines energy oil and gas nuclear all of it and here's Mark Carney getting asked about Donald Trump 51st state this is a complete disaster he had time to get a deal and now he's just gonna have to concede or what not get a deal just to follow up on that does does the 51st state jab at this point impact those trade negotiations happening in Washington?
I mean the president is an exceptionally active user of social media You probably can chart his usage of it.It's only gone up in recent months and we're not going to respond or react to everything that he posts.Thank you.
showed up for 65 % of his first 123.There should be a minimum here.It should be atleast 50%.This is embarrassing.
Hello, Premier.
Unfortunately, my question is for the Prime Minister.
You were asked, this file has not advanced for a couple of years. You were asked what unblocked and you said we unblocked. What needed unblocking? What does unblocking entail? And since the Premier said twice that Quebec is getting more than its population share of funding, who's getting less?

Get started freeWell, first off, let me just compliment the Premier, Premier Frechette.
So he's already said ah seven times and I watched this entire 2 minute 41 second clip.He says ah over 30, 35 times at least.
It was less than two months ago.that we met before, as the premier said, before the premier was formally sworn in to the role. And we had a very clear meeting of minds and priorities. And there were these areas, as you say in your question, Mr. Wells, of funds that were available.
And I'll spare you the rest here.He just goes on to word salad. They're doing this deal.Ten billion dollars is something like four hundred million dollars for electric buses in Quebec.Meanwhile, in Washington, we've got an absolute madhouse where Dominique Le Bon is begging to the Americans that we keep Kuzma going.
We presented a number of specific proposals to Ambassador Greer that we think are good.in the broader context of the North American economy.LeBlanc, unwilling to give specifics on the proposals, but said they address longstanding U .S.grievances.The meeting, not viewed as formal talks, appearing to put Canada behind the Mexicans who've already hosted American negotiators, a concern for the Conservatives.
The Mexicans have been in formal negotiations, eating our lunch for the last six months.
A worry dismissed by Canada's chief negotiator,
You don't know that.
They don't know that's going to happen. The Mexicans might undercut Canada just so they can get their own better deal. This is so naive.
Also aligned on wanting to extend the free trade deal for 16 years. The bloc formally announcing Canada's position in a letter to his counterparts.saying this agreement is highly beneficial to each of our countries.
No kidding. We knew this a year ago.Carney could have waited for the opportune moment to send a message to Donald Trump and said, hey, let's get a deal. There was a couple of times there where things were going his way.And that's the kind of guy he is.If he can get a deal and it makes him look good, it makes his administration look good.
That's when Carney should have put forward a deal.Obviously, he's just using the whole situation for politics. And now Canadians are losing their jobs.
We give them protection. The American position on the future of a deal Unclear, one of many moving parts to talks, including a revival of an old Donald Trump threat. The president posting a Bloomberg article about Canada's technical recession.
So yeah, this whole 51st state thing, it's ridiculous.Obviously, he's just stirring this up as we're going into these negotiations. We got Carney getting slammed here on CTV.
Melanie, talk to me a little bit about that messaging around it and how Dominic LeBlanc is framing it, even Janice Charette.basically use the same type of language, saying a strong Canada is good for North America and trying to continue to hammer home that message. At the same time, you know, she had also said that they're trying to make sure that the talks that the Mexicans are having with the United States are not going to undercut what might be in the trilateral agreement. So really working on many fronts here.
So the message they're delivering that strong Canada is good for the North American economy is absolutely true. The problem is that it's not supported by what's actually happening right now.The fact is Canada is in a recession and the United States views us as very weak as a result of that. The United States respects strength. And so in negotiations with them we have to position ourselves from a position of strength. And Mark Carney has had a year to do that.
And we are it feels like we are no closer.to being a strong Canada.
There's a bunch of questions here you could dig into this stuff for hours and hours because Brookfield is such a big company.

Get started freeThe short answer is no to the second part of your question. And it's an administration that we have to work with. It's our biggest trading relationship. It's our biggest security relationship. Many other relationships. And we work with that administration.
We take the administration as it is and are working together on a number of areas.
In other areas. He looks exactly like Justin Trudeau here.Just fumbling and bumbling. No real answer.Jumping back to CTV, Laura Stone gets asked about the clip of Carney walking past her and not answering the question on recession.
You know, Mike, I thought he would say something yesterday. He turned to walk towards me and then he kind of pointed towards the door and sauntered off.But I think the lesson is that communication is key.You cannot leave this gaping hole, this gaping black hole of information.expect Canadians to just accept it or to give up.And that's where I think that the Liberal government has handed an opportunity to the Conservatives this week to define this issue around the economy, around whether we're having a technical recession, a real recession, or if things are just looking really bad.
I mean, the Liberals have had to answer to this. And it wasn't until today that we heard from the Prime Minister after a few days of the opposition setting the narrative. So when the Prime Minister came out today and explained a little bit about the trade talks, you know, the difference between Canada and Mexico, that's helpful. When he talked about why the Canadian economy might be looking weaker right now, but what what the government is doing about it, that's helpful. But you cannot just walk away from questions or leave a void of information and expect it to all go away. And I think that that's been a problem of this government.
We haven't seen the prime minister answering questions from the opposition and from the media as much as as many would like, I think.
Meanwhile, coming from the White House, this website here is literally from the White House. You can see WhiteHouse .gov Aliens, they walk among us.60 years ago, the US government kept a closely guarded secret, and it just goes on here.It says, If you're just as confused as I am, then welcome to the club.I have no idea why this is on the White House website, but here we are.
on the White House's website. So with all this going on, clearly net zero is not helping Canada. It's tanking our economy. We're in a recession now. What does Carney have to say?
It's not just what we build. It's also how we build. We build across this country inclusively.in full partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis. We build in solidarity with workers, creating good union jobs.We build sustainably.
because reducing emissions is not just a moral duty. It's an economic imperative.
Oh, it's an economic imperative.According to who? There is no data to support that. Here he is doubling down on net zero and reconciliation. We've got some other stuff happening here today, but it was just found out today that the Liberals tried to sneak something into Bill C -9.That's Sean Fraser's lack of free speech bill.
Before we get to that, because this is relevant, what did Carney have to say yesterday?
That pact for immigration to Canada is clear. We welcome the peoples of the world in all their diversity and all that splendor. We don't welcome the world's hatreds. When you come to Canada, you bring your faith, your tradition, your language, your story. You leave behind your animosities.
But that's not what's happening. These guys are letting IRGC officials into our country and gangsters, goons and goblins running rampant in our streets.Human trafficking, extortions, car thefts. That is exactly who they're allowing into our country.Unvetted people. So within Bill C -9, which is supposed to crack down on the H -word that he just said there, we've got Cosman here, Juno News, posting this.
Wow.Are you kidding me?How do we operate this country on the facts and the truth. How about that? Were there situations where there was bad stuff that happened back then?Let's acknowledge it.
When there's situations where there aren't graves, there's just disturbed soil because maybe it was just a septic field at the Kamloops Residential School.Which brings us to this article from the National Post.Kamloops Residential School graves could have been septic pipes all along.Five years after the explosive announcement of 215 children's graves, the only way to know what's under the ground is to excavate. So what we've got here is a drawing at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.includes dotted lines, the bottom right, that show the disposal beds where near suspected unmarked graves were found with ground penetrating radar.
It says less than two months after the Teclumap's First Nation issued an explosive announcement, them saying they discovered 215 graves, turns out it could just be septic lines. It's time to dig.And that's just it.We don't know what this is.So it needs to be dug up.This needs to be solved.
Obviously, they don't want to do that.Otherwise, they would have already spent that 12 million dollars that we gave them to do it.Instead, they just pocketed it.Meanwhile, we've got the Reclamare posting this. This is such an interesting angle from this. He's taken all the statistics and calculated it.

Get started freeIf it was 104 girls who never reproduced throughout this time here, you would see this gap this big.Basically all this stuff is not lining up.It's time to dig.policy that existed a long time across a whole country, there were different experiences. But he also says he's interviewed people who believe they were well -intended, generous investments by Canadian taxpayers meant to assimilate a society and had shortcomings.Obviously, there's some situations here where there was bad things done, but this is being weaponized against taxpayers when is this just a septic field or are there graves here?
Because the numbers don't add up.We just gave $12 million for what? For nothing?Because a chief wanted a bunch of money?Canadians have been paying reconciliation for decades, no one alive to today did anything.from back then because no one was alive from those days back then.
It's that long ago.So it's time to clean this up.And I think we should just get rid of the whole system.Every Canadian be equal. Why aren't we all equal? This whole thing of reconciliation, it's out of control.
We've got articles like this.We don't need to worry about the Cowichan decision. Some people have heard that Aboriginal Title is about to undo private property ownership across British Columbia. But that is not the case. This is coming from Rob Botterell.Rob Bodereau, Saanich North.
So this guy's a green candidate. On the flip side, we also have introducing Rob Bodereau. What does it say?I eventually moved to private law practice for 25 years.I represented First Nation governments.Wow.
What do you know? It's a conflict of interest.
I see people who believe that BC can still be a beacon of opportunity, functional, safe, affordable, and family friendly. With your help, we can turn that commitment into reality.to bring health and fairness across British Columbia.
And that's it.We've lost common sense. It's lost across Canada. It's lost with First Nation land grabs and reconciliation. And now we've got a leader here who was Pierre Poliev's whip, is a lawyer who won against the Musqueam Nation, has been in politics for many years, knows the entire system. This should bring hope to everyone.
This will be great for Canada, not just British Columbia, but great for Canada.Meanwhile, ground zero to clean up this reconciliation nonsense starts in British Columbia. We have David Eby who tried it himself.Look at this.Premier Eby has learned he is not an charge.Evie gave up everything by abandoning his plan to revise DRIPA after threats from Indigenous leaders.
He can't pass laws to even change it because he's got too many First Nation leaders in his own caucus. And then what does he come up with during his press conference?
From my perspective, the job that she's applying for right now looks a lot more like a mega regional manager than the Premier of British Columbia. But I'll stay tuned and hear what her plans are.
We have a talk withBritish Columbia.I thought I'd just throw this clip in here. We've got Michael Couture trying to grill Kerry Lynn Finley. She's not having it.
Yeah, and I wanted to ask you because during the leadership race, you questioned whether fellow leadership contestant Peter Millibar was in a conflict of interest on issues of reconciliation because his wife is Indigenous and works as a receptionist at a band office. Now that suggestion was slammed by a number of fellow contestants and federal Conservatives.Did you apologize to Mr. Millibar after that?
I did not say that to begin with.I did not tie the ethnicity of his family to the question. The question was put...
You did.I do have the transcript here in terms of what you did say.Let me finish your question.
Let me finish answering your question.I did not question it based on ethnicity.I questioned his conflict of interest based on their positions with the band and more than one band.I have dealt with many, many band managers who are Caucasian, for instance. It's about the fact that there could be a perceived conflict of interest. He ran with the idea that I was questioning it based on ethnicity, but he and I met today.
We had an excellent conversation. He is moving forward in the caucus with me. I asked for his expertise on that issue and on economics because he's been a very able finance critic and we are moving together as friends and colleagues.
and to be clear i did ask the question saying that she worked at the band office as well and i know that that was part of the equation in what you were saying in your question no but you were trying to rap and race with it we know what they're doing here she's very deliberate with questioning millibar's conflict of interest now me on the other hand i went full bore because well his daughter is married to a guy from theTeklematps First Nation who got $12 million. So if they want to come at me, I don't care. It's a direct conflict of interest. So with all that said, I thought this post was pretty funny. It says, And on top of that, he was writing a book on how to sue the police.
