I think at the end of the day, maybe just take a deep breath and figure it out.You know, we're not talking about omitting Elise or Harry Kane here.We're talking about Harry Maguire.But look, I did expect him to be in there, if I'm being honest.And you know we can maybe we do that first I want to talk about the Edison thing because it looks like Edison is getting closer another report coming out tonight from Simon Jones in the mail around Edison essentially saying that Manchester United are expected to resume talks with Atalanta for Edison the Italian side looking for a fee of 34 .5 million plus a further 4 .3 and add -ons Edison is keen to join United that Simon Jones in the Daily Mail Edison Manchester United with 34 million pounds I suppose when you talk about Edison is this deal about the price or is it about the player because We will talk about the World Cup stuff in a moment, but I wanted to start offwith Edison and Manchester United and what benefits us.

You know, there is no other club in the Premier League looking for Edison.Atletico Madrid have pivoted to Jaume Gomez.What are Man United doing going after Edison?Is it just because he's available for £34 million?Now, if you buy cheap, you buy twice.That's a motto that most of us know.

You buy cheap, you buy twice.What that means is, If you need a washing line for your back garden and you buy a cheap one because you don't want to pay for the expensive one, the reality is the cheap one won't last and you'll end up buying twice.

This is about the price, according to Austin.Look, I mean, Beth's had a bad day.Beth's had a bad day, bless her.She's not happy about Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire and she's not happy about Edison.And football is a funny old thing, isn't it?You know, you can be celebrating one day and then the next day you're not getting what you want.

What I will say about Edison is I understand the red flags.Are we just going for him because he's cheap and nobody else wants him?Are we just going for him because, you know, we want to buy three midfielders and he's a cheap one.There's red flags that he doesn't even get in the Brazil squad.If he's that good, why doesn't he get in the Brazil squad?There's red flags that he's never played in the Premier League before.

And there's red flags that he's going to be 27 this summer and nobody's ever gone and got him from Atalanta before.

But to be consistent, I didn't mind it when we got linked to him two years ago.I didn't mind it when we got linked to him last year.He does feel like a player where the ship has sailed though.I would acknowledge that.I think he's a good player in relation to Atalanta and the Italian league.That's all we can judge him on in a little bit of Champions League.

He is a good player, but I don't think he's a playerthat Man United sign and Liverpool and Arsenal go, oh my God, oh my God, they've only gone and done it.Oh, forget, forget, cancel the trophy parade.Cancel the Champions League final.United have only gone and got Edison.Oh, stop the clocks.

It's over.Forget it.Man United are back.I don't think the rest of the football world is going to react to us signing Edison in that way.I think they'd be more fearful of us signing Alex Scott or James Garner than someone like Edison.

So, look, there's a there's a large element of risk in signing this player because it's not very exciting.He's not really, you know, achieved a hell of a lot in his career at 26, but he is cheap and I think that is where I would agree with the negativity is that it just feels like it's a cheap available deal.And that's not what we want to hear.You know, we need three midfielders.We don't need a couple of cheap ones.Like we need three midfielders.

You may as well just buy two rather than buy cheap.So I'd rather we bought Tenali and Anderson than buy cheap.So we'll have to wait and see.But I've got to say, it's not the most inspiring transfer.Having said that, we bought Dan James first one summer.You don't necessarily buy in order of priority or value.

So we might just be getting this one in as a cheaper midfielder.And if we got Edison and we got Scott and we got Tenali, it wouldn't be a bad midfield three with Mainu, would it?

So look, maybe United are buying him as the third midfielder because he's cheap and feel like as a fourth choice midfielder, having someone like Edison really improves the squad.

Is he better than Agaté?Is he an upgrade on Agaté?You know, you can look at it like that as well.

Is he better than Belayba?I don't know.I mean, I can't, Liam, I would love to say he's better than Belayba, but I don't actually know because as many people will say, you know, people that we've bought from Serie A that have done well.Rasmus, Ahmad from Atalanta, you know, so, you know, You can get players in.

I mean, I don't think Rasmus was terrible, by the way.I think it went wrong for numerous reasons, but I don't think he was terrible.I don't think our man's been terrible.

So it can, you know, it can work out.But I think that, you know what I think it is about Edison?

I think if we went and bought Anderson and we went and bought Alex Scott, And then in August, we bought Edison.I think people would go, yeah, it's a clever third midfield.We've got Scott, we've got Anderson, we've got Maino, and now we've got Edison.That's a clever little deal.Four good midfielders going into a season where we're in the Champions League, the Premier League, the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup.That's quite good.

I think it's because it's potentially the first signing that United are doing here that has caused it.I mean, I suppose I should run a poll here.It is an 80 o 'clock show, by the way.So I really just want to...That's the way it is.There's a couple of other bits, but that's pretty much the topical stuff.

I'd give him a free pass for 12 months.I'd say, let's get on with it.Let's go.But I don't think they will.I don't think they will.And to be fair, if they got Anderson, I'd probably do the same.

You know, we try and just play a little bit open, create some chances.Brighton will play open and, you know, we have a high scoring game of football.But Casemiro won't play, which will be interesting because I don't know who he will play next to Mainu.You know, could it be a young player like Thwaites?I don't know.Could he just start Agaté, which, you know, probably we don't want to happen.

But Casimiro won't play in this game.That's been confirmed by Michael Carrick.

And then we've got the World Cup stuff.Now, if you are just tuning in and you've not been on social media tonight, the England World Cup squad is meant to be announced tomorrow at about 11 o 'clock.we pretty much know what it is because it's been leaking like a dripping tap since about two o 'clock this afternoon.And it started with Harry Maguire, to be fair.And Harry Maguire has been omitted from the England squad.Now, I think there's universal shock about this, so much so that he's actually tweeted this himself.

Now, this is quite a modernistic thing to do because I remember in 1998 Paul Gascoigne was one of our biggest players and he got left out by Glenn Hoddle and it was a massive shock for the nation because Gascoigne

you know, alright he had his problems but he was still seen as an important player and Glenn Hoddle left him out.So this is what Harry Maguire has put out publicly.I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I've had.I've been left shocked and gutted by the decision.I've loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years.I wish the players all the best this summer.

But I also couldn't stand Gareth Southgate and he was full of favouritism.And I think Southgate would have took Shaw and Luke Shaw never should have gone and Tuchel's not picked Luke Shaw and Shaw never should have gone.Because despite what Ricky thinks and what Beth thinks, I don't think he's played well at left back this season.

Availability is not ability.Availability is just turning up.And that's what Luke Shaw's been impressive at this season because he doesn't normally turn up that much.So I think people got blinded by the fact that Luke Shaw played every single game.

I don't think he'sbeen playing very well at left -back.I thought he did quite well at left -centre -back in an Amram system, but at left -back he doesn't cross, he doesn't get forward, he doesn't dribble.

Lewis Hall isn't going to the World Cup and he is ten times the better left -back than Luke Shaw, so Luke Shaw's got no right to think he was going.But Harry Maguire does, because Harry Maguire got called up to the last squad and Harry Maguire has been playing well for Man United the last few weeks and we've just finished third in the Premier League.And he's been a big part of that.So I think Harry Maguire has a very, very strong case to be absolutely gutted.And England means a lot to Harry Maguire as well.

So, you know, he's going to be devastated by that.And you put yourself in his shoes.Luke Shaw will be upset.But I think that was delusion to think he should have gone anyway.But Harry Maguire will be devastated because I think we all thought he was going to go.And for Thomas Tukul to pick Dan Byrne over Harry Maguire and Lewis Hall, Even Newcastle fans don't think Dan Byrne should be going over Lewis Hall, so look, it will irritate.

I think if you're someone like Cole Palmer and Phil Foden, you can only be irritated with yourself.

The reason you're not going, lads, is because you haven't had a good season, and reputation shouldn't get you there.Ezi, Maduweke, they deserve to go ahead of you because they've had better seasons.

Cole Palmer and Foden, should be going to the World Cup with England, but they haven't had a good season, so they can only blame themselves.But Harry Maguire has had a good season, and he'll look at it and go, what the fuck is Dan Byrne going to the World Cup before me?Dan Byrne, he's 33, he's never been to a major tournament, he plays for Newcastle, who haven't had a very good season, I play for Man United, I've been to major tournaments, I've played in Europe, I've played for England, and I've just finished third in the Premier League.How the fuck is Dan Byrne going ahead of me?And that's what he'll be thinking.

And so look, I completely and I feel.Maguire because, you know, I've been for jobs in the past where I felt I was better than the person that got it.And it's very frustrating because you can't, I'm sure many of you will agree with me this, when you don't get something you feel you should get, it's very hard to move on.

When you don't get something you didn't deserve, it's very easy to move on.You're disappointed, but you go, you know, at the end of the day, we deserve that.

When Man United got beat at Wembley in 2011 in the Champions League final, it was disappointing, but we didn't deserve it.We didn't deserve it.When we got knocked out by Real Madrid in Sir Alex Ferguson's last Champions League game at Old Trafford, that was hard to square off because we didn't deserve to lose that and we got done over.So, Maguire's gonna feel bad because he feels like he didn't deserve it, and I don't think he did deserve it.But just to explain why it might have happened, there's two reasons, I think.I actually like some of the decisions that Thomas Tuchel has made, by the way.

I don't like some of them, but I do like some of them.And also England has been run by the media and favouritism for most of my life.So to have a manager that actually is willing to make shocking decisions is quite exciting in a way, even though I don't agree with some of the decisions.

But I think about it and I think, you know what?Why Thomas Tuchel might have done this is because if you take Harry Maguire to the World Cup, he is not a bench player.And I would take it as a compliment if I was Maguire.

If you go to the World Cup, Harry Maguire doesn't want to sit on the bench.I said this when he got his year contract at Man United.I wouldn't have given Maguire a new contract because he will want to start.Harry Maguire will never want to sit on the bench.He doesn't want to do it.He'll want to start.

And next season, Harry Maguire starting for Man United might not be a good idea.For England, he would want to start.He'd turn up for training, he'd be one of the front, he'd want to start.Now, I think Thomas Tuchel's gone, I can take Harry Maguire to the World Cup as a backup, but the way he is, he will want to be a leader and he will want to start.That might be counterproductive to what I'm trying to do, because I'm going to start Konza and Gehy, and I don't want to start Maguire.And I don't know how that will work with the squad dynamics, because he's a leader and he's not going to be a starter.

So Tuchel might have done it like that.Why won't he start Maguire?Because he probably wants to play a high line and Konza and Gehi are quick.So I think that might be why he's done it.If anything, Maguire's too much of a leader to be sat on the bench, and he probably thinks it might imbalance the squad a little bit.And Maguire's not been part of the squad that much.

So, look, it's a strange decision, but that's the only way I can sort of square it off.To be honest with you main news in the squad.I think that's good.I think that's good because Wharton's not been picked I don't know what the makeup of the midfield is for England yet, but main news in there Wharton's not So main news done well to get in there But yeah, Luke Shaw shouldn't be going Not in my opinion.

Nick P says, brilliant from Tuchel, no sentiment included.He can't just see, he can see Maguire lacks pace and gets horribly exposed.Wish he was our manager.

It's funny, actually, because I saw a comment from somebody saying that I'm so glad we didn't get Thomas Tuchel as Man United manager.And I don't know whether I replied, but I actually thought, you know what, this is why I wanted him as manager.I actually think a manager that makes big decisions, Maguire wouldn't have got a new contract.

Luke Shaw would be gone.I think this is the sort of, funnily enough, these are the decisions that people are moaning about that I actually think Man United need.

Man United actually need somebody to come in and go, fuck sentiment, you know, we need to change things, you know?

because I like Maguire and I think he's unlucky, but I wouldn't have kept him for another year.I wouldn't have kept him for another year for the reasons I've just said there.

I think he's a player that will want to start.And I can't see Harry being happy to sit on the bench in Champions League games and Premier League games.And that's where he needs to be now because we need to move on.

and leaving Luke Shore out of an England squad, well, boo fucking hoo.You know, I think it's absolutely correct.So I would have loved... too cool to have got the Man United job because he's shown that he can make big decisions and obviously you're going to make bad decisions, but fundamentally, Man United need a big, big, big, big change.I'm old and remember United getting team star players from successful teams around the world.Literally the hottest properties to get now.Look, change needed, says It's Me.

Yeah, I mean, look, you know, when we signed Rooney from Everton, that's like signing Anderson from Forest.

You know, we did used to do those sort of things.Roy Keane.We got him from Forrest, he was like Anderson as well.We did used to go and get Ferdinand from Leeds.

We did used to go and do those deals, you're right.And look at how successful we were.You've only bought two midfielders, though.We need three, pal.Fax says, why looking at big names to fill the Casimiro spot?Thought Casimiro was finished at the top level and has no legs.

Not because Trent's not a good right back, because he just doesn't like him.So, you know, I think that Man Utd, in a way there is an irony to the fact that some United fans are moaning about Luke Shaw not being in the England squad.And yet that's exactly the type of manager we need at Man Utd.Somebody that kicks him out of the Man Utd squad and says it's time to move on.

Same to Deleux, same to Maguire, same to Casimiro.These players do need moving on.They've had good seasons, but they do need moving on.If we want to get better, Look, Delo and Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire and Casemiro have been here at this football club for the last three years and longer with some of them.Have we been good in the last three years?Have we been good enough to compete for the title in the last three years?

They're senior players.Third place ain't it for me.The FA Cup ain't it for me. I want to compete for the title.Our senior players don't get near titles.
