South Thailand / Satun

SATUN

Satun, just some 20km (13mi) from the Malaysian border, is the capital of Satun Province, 973km (608mi) from Bangkok and with an area of 2,478sqkm (957sqmi) one of the smallest provinces in southern Thailand. It’s one of four Southern provinces where 80 percent of Thai Muslims live. Accordingly, pork is difficult to find, in the town as well as the whole province.

The province is mountainous with a coastal plain and encompasses more than 60 offshore islands. Politically, it is divided into the five districts Muang (the town of Satun), Khuan Kalong, La Ngu, Thung Wa and Khuan Don and the Tha Phae sub-district.
