Theatre is an old tradition of Bangladesh. Open air rural opera known as ‘Jatra’-depicting mythological episodes. love-lore and acts of heroism are still popular in the country. Modern plays are staged mostly in the urban areas. Bengalee playwrights have succeeded in developing a distinct character of local plays and a new class of urban audience.
